Recreation of Financial Transactions, Fraud Investigation
This case involved an intentional overbilling by the service provider of the client for hauling water to and from frack sites. A statistician was used to pick a sample to select and approximately 17,500 field tickets were individually reviewed, recorded, and consolidated into a template for analysis. Through analysis, it was discovered that the client was overbilled by at least $1M. The case went to court and the client was awarded approximately $2M, but the case has subsequently been reversed and remanded for a new trial.
